Septic Safe Program Review

In late 2009 and early 2010, Council held public meetings in Hartley and Hampton to hear the concerns of the community about the implementation of the Onsite Sewage Management Strategy (commonly known as the Septic Safe Program). Council subsequently decided to review the Septic Safe Program and gave a commitment to report back to the community on the outcomes of the review.

The review was undertaken in response to a number of concerns expressed by members of the community about the implementation of the Septic Safe Program. Inspections of septic and other sewage management systems have been temporarily suspended during the review and public consultation period.

Council resolved at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held 24 May 2010 to place the Onsite Sewage Management Strategy on public exhibition for 28 days and to hold public consultation meetings.

Council will soon be holding information sessions on the future operation of the “Septic Safe” Program.

Members of the community with a septic or other type of sewage management system or who have an interest in environmental and health issues are encouraged to make a submission on the Onsite Sewage Management Strategy and to attend one of the public meetings as follows:
