“Lithgow City Council welcomes the announcement of Lithgow’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2012, artist Vanessa Crisp,” says Mayor Neville Castle.
Vanessa, a lettering artist and graphic designer based at Evans Head, preserves and presents Australia’s history in a unique way through her calligraphy. She is perhaps best known for her Australiana series of prints, one of Ned Kelly and an immortal study of Gallipoli. The many artists and lovers of Australian history in Lithgow will enjoy hearing Vanessa speak at the up coming Australia Day Ceremonies at Eskbank House and Museum and Portland Show Ground.
The official Australia Day ceremonies will commence at Eskbank House and Museum where Mayor Neville Castle will host a citizenship ceremony welcoming new citizens to Australia, and will present Australia Day Awards for the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year. Vanessa Crisp will also present the official Australia Day address.
Further Australia Day events will be held at Wallerawang and Portland. A flag raising ceremony will be held at the Wallerawang Bowling Club where Ben Austin, a Para Olympic swimmer and Wallerawang Australia Day Ambassador will talk about his experiences. Activities at Portland have moved this year to Kremer Park (Portland Showground) where Vanessa Crisp will be joining the Mayor for the official ceremony.
“Australia Day 2012 will offer an exciting variety of activities for all ages, including activities at Lithgow Swimming Pool, to accompany the official ceremonies. I encourage the community to get involved in the celebration of this important day,” said Mayor Castle.
The official Lithgow Australia Day Program will be released in the next few weeks so everyone can make their plans for the day. |
