Do I have to register my dog?
All dogs over the age of six months are required by the Companion Animals Act to be registered. Dog registrations are transferrable from one Council area to another within the State of New South Wales.
How to lifetime register your dog
Lifetime registration can be done at Council's administration Centre. 
When you register you will need:
- A certificate of microchipping or a letter from your vet
- Proof of desexing from your vet or a statutory declaration
- Any documents which entitle you to a discount ie pensioner card
- Payment of the fee
The fees are :
Entire (undesexed) dog $150.00
Entire dog owned by registered breeder $40.00
Desexed dog $40.00
Dexesed dog owned by a pensioner $15.00
Does my dog need to be microchipped?
All dogs must be microchipped from 12 weeks of age and before being sold. The dog must be microchipped prior to being registered.
Where can I get my dog microchipped?
Vets, animal welfare organisations and Council can microchip your dog.
Can I exercise my dog off its lead?
Dogs are required to be restrained while in a public place with the exception of prescribed dog exercise areas. These areas include the designated fenced areas of:
- Endeavour Park, Lithgow
- Montague St , Lithgow
- Lake Wallace, Wallerawang
- Williwa St, Portland
