Swimming Pools

Owners of existing swimming pools and those intending to install a pool must be aware of their responsibilities under the Swimming Pools Act.

Owners of Existing Pools

The owners of an existing pool must ensure that it is fenced in accordance with the regulations to restrict access by children. It is an offence not to comply with this requirement and Council Officers have power of entry to inspect and issue on the spot fines and orders as necessary. Pool owners are also required to display an approved resuscitation poster that contains the warning "young children should be supervised when using this swimming pool".

What does it apply to?

The Swimming Pools Act applies to all private swimming pools, and also includes spas, indoor pools and above ground pools.

Council Officers are available at all times between 8.15am and 4.30pm Mon. to Fri. to discuss any issues relating to private swimming pools phone (02) 6354 9927 or by e-mailing Environmental & Planning Services.

New Pools
