Management Actions for 2003/04
1 Develop a working party to review the progress of the Stormwater Management Plan Implementation Strategy and prioritise actions for funding.
2 Provide a system for reporting, policing and clean-up of pollution incidences. Council officers to utilise legislative tools.
3 Update Council's requirements for the control of soil and sediment on development sites and provide adequate training and information to the development community.
4 Develop and implement a planning policy requiring stormwater management on development sites. Any devices installed on commercial land are to be maintained by the landowner.
5 Continue to present Council's Environmental Awards for the recognition of environmental excellence.
6 Conduct audits of Council work sites.
7 Provide training to Council staff on methods to protect the stormwater.
8 Develop local stormwater educational resources for schools to increase the awareness of the local stormwater issues.
9 Conduct a Waterweek education program including responsible stormwater messages.

11 Continued support and encouragement of partnerships with community groups such as Tidy Towns, LOLA etc.
12 Further develop Council's website to include stormwater information.
13 Continue street sweeping on a weekly basis and regularly review the operation to ensure optimum effectiveness.
14 Continuation of the Kerb & Guttering and Road Sealing Programs to reduce the amount of sediment washing into waterways from unsealed road surfaces.
15 Continuation of the Pit and Pipe Maintenance Program based on customer complaints and observation.
16 Encourage appropriate tree planting in urban areas to maintain the streetscape and reduce erosion.
17 Maintain the leachate control system to the Lithgow Landfill to prevent stormwater contamination.
18 Maintain the dog run areas to minimise the amount of dog faecal contamination in local waterways
19 Support the Chemical Collection Day.
20 Review Council mowing practices and assess suitability of alternate mowing techniques, ie leaving a strip along river banks or street sweeping after mowing on road sides.
21 Examine the potential for sedimentation from the Council Depot in Mort Street and take any remedial action if required.
22 Prepare a policy requiring rainwater tank installations for new developments.
